 Trinity College Chapel

One of the most unique church building in srilanka, trinity college chapel is acknowledged as the finest example of the application of indigenous architecture in the design of a church. The open chapel is modeled one the old pillared audience halls built by ancient kings in polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura. Designed in the early 1920s by the college’s vice principal at the time, rev gaster, a qualified architect who gave bold expression to ideas drawn from the rich architectural heritage of the country. The lofty hipped roof is supported by massive carved stone pillars that were installed using elephants. Exceptional murals by artist david painter create a serene ambience within.
