Trinity College Chapel
One of the most unique church building in srilanka, trinity
college chapel is acknowledged as the finest example of the application of
indigenous architecture in the design of a church. The open chapel is modeled
one the old pillared audience halls built by ancient kings in polonnaruwa and
Anuradhapura. Designed in the early 1920s by the college’s vice principal at
the time, rev gaster, a qualified architect who gave bold expression to ideas
drawn from the rich architectural heritage of the country. The lofty hipped
roof is supported by massive carved stone pillars that were installed using
elephants. Exceptional murals by artist david painter create a serene ambience
within.
