Asgiri gedige vihara
Nestling at the foot of the asgiri hills, is the oldest
component of the asgiri maha vihara, namely asgiri gedige or bell house the
gedige was built in the 14th century by king vikramabahu of gampola
in memory of his queen mother, chandrawathie who was creamed here, the original
site of the royal cremation grounds. In addition to the old gedige there is a
more recent temple and ancient bo tree to the west.
